Hey guys, I don't normally post up stuff here, but this struck me as something several fellow artists might be taking offence to, and thus deserved warning about:

a few days back, http://www.furaffinity.net/user/bluesnowleopard/ invited me to rp with them, and offered me a link to their photobucket page telling me i was to pick a character (from the roughly 200 displayed) and that they would rp with said character.

now, i should mention that none of these 200 characters were drawn by Mr.Leopard. and also, that Mr.Leopard did not ask for permission from the artists before adding them to the photobucket account, nor did he ask permission from the artists to rp with them.

this: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1481707/
was among the pictures in their stock of characters, and, like everyone else, i was not asked permission. notably, i was not even credited (unless you count the tag in the url where my username sits between the title and the .jpeg) even more irritating, is the fact that my friend's character is also in this picture, and is not credited either.

to further this annoyance, aparently, Zero is now Yoko, and Japanese. oh, and did i metnion, she's a feline?

the account itself is here: http://s170.photobucket.com/albums/.....47/nekogirlo1/
and contains a lot of mature artwork, so it's password protected. unless they've changed it, it's still snowball99

While they're not claiming that they created the characters, they are claiming that it's okay to use them in rp's; changing names, and backstories. i know this bothers some furs, and i think it's also a point to mention that aparently, Mr.Leopard does do more mature rp's with said characters.

just a heads up.
(if this is inappropreate to post here, i'll take it down.)

Hi everyone!

Wow, I totally forgot that I'm the owner of this community. :) Since I'm rarely around to maintain it, I would like to appoint another member as a maintainer, as well. Since the group is still relatively small, I'll only appoint one member as maintainer as of right now. If interested, please leave a comment here with why I should pick you as maintainer. :) Mention any experience you have, your values, etc. :D

Keep on keepin' on! :)

Commissions open- help me save money for my wedding?

Mar. 9th, 2008 | 08:56 pm

My FurAffinity Gallery (all recent stuff): http://www.furaffinity.net/user/kitsuneko
My gallery website (marker and wet media are the most updated): http://www.failedtonotice.com

I am still open for commissions.

My lovely boyfriend has asked me to marry him. I, of course, have said yes. We are both college students, however, and his family isn't going to be able to help out at all with the wedding (they do not approve). My family is limited, fundage wise, and so are we, so I'd like to get a few commissions to be able to put some starting money in a savings account for our wedding and honeymoon.

We're not going anywhere extravagant for it, just to Vegas to see Cirque Du Soleil (I have not seen in it a crow's age), so it'll be relatively inexpensive and boring compared to other honeymoons. Either way, we're broke.

If you could help us out and commission me I would be endlessly grateful- and will most likely throw in a free gift to you as well as my way of saying thank you.

I love him so much, and never really thought I'd ever get the chance to be happy. He's made me happy, but I want to be able for us to enjoy our wedding together. Please, if you don't want to commission me, perhaps consider recommending me to a friend? I take paypal, well-concealed cash, checks and money orders.

rates can be seen here for the regular stuff: http://www.failedtonotice.com/services.html

Those are just rough base prices, of course, and are adjusted as necessary and are always negotiable. Please keep in mind, though, if you want to haggle- Supplies are expensive (I'm real media only, really) and time is, too- so please don't ask me to do a full piece for you for something like $2. :)

New things:

BUTTONS!!! 2 1/4" buttons. Can do face shots, chibi buttons, whatever you wantses. Oh, I dunno... $8 including shipping?

STICKERS!!!! I can do stickers. Custom cut, sheet sized, whatever you want I can do eet. For up to two die-cut custom stickers on a 5.5x8.5 sheet: $8 including shipping. If you want them done on an 8.5x11 sheet you can get up to four; the price would be $12 including shipping ($2 per extra sticker, basically, since the paper is more expensive). The work is done on inkjet compatible paper, so the markers stay true and don't bleed too badly.

REFERENCE SHEETS!!!! I can do these digitally, or traditionally. I prefer to do them traditionally, believe it or not, and even if you request it digital it'll still be drawn traditionally, and then scanned in and cleaned up. For examples- http://www.failedtonotice.com/other.html - Mazz's is digital with traditional inks; Riley/Whisper/Zatanna are all real media and scanned in and adjusted/graphic'd accordingly.

Now for the regular things, quotes here: http://www.failedtonotice.com/services.html

Paintings: paintings take me awhile, but ask me to give you a quote. :3 Can be done up to 11x14, some exceptions (I do have larger paper but am lax to use it). I only do watercolor at this time.

Marker Art: up to 11x14. Can be straight marker (on marker paper) or mixed media (sometimes done on sketchbook paper or parchment type paper) where it's accented with colored pencil. Prices are reasonable!

Colored Pencil Stuff: least preferred. Even if this is requested I will most likely put a marker base down anyway so the white paper doesn't show through.

Ink: I like making inked pictures but generally my inks are ready for finishing, so there's not a lot of ink detail. Can be done, though. Just ask.

Sketches: My sketches are never just fast sketches- they're cleaned up and finished, sometimes shaded (though usually not). Always finished and ready for inks.

Thanks for your consideration and recommendations. I appreciate it, so much. I really, really do.

My buddy Priest22 suggested that I do a ladder commission, which I agree is a pretty cool idea. I've never done one before, so I thought I'd try it out. :) I'll be starting these ladder commissions at the beginning of May after I get my March/April deadlines done, and I'll be working on the ladder commissions in between of current commissions on my queue, so no worries if you're on my list waiting, I'm not abandoning you guys. :D Plus, I want to move you all off my queue and quick. :)

So, if anyone is interested, here's the link. :D This might end up being pretty fun seeing how high the auction goes!

New Art Community!

posted by: rileycostello in anthroartlounge

I know this stuff comes around a lot, but I thought I'd try and get the word out again.

We're in the middle of our first round, but there's only six members so far!

If you have a decent grasp of the basic skills for anthro art- anatomy, coloring, lighting, simple backgrounds... then come join median_art_swap! It's for artists who are more advanced than stick art, but who still need a bit of practice before being able to be admitted to more stringent approval-only communities or art sites like ArtSpots. If you want critique we will give it to you, but mostly, it's just to draw and trade with people more on the same level as yourself!

Come apply- it is application only, but I'm pretty quick on the review process. I'm also looking for people to help me moderate.

The round we're in right now ends 2/29, and the next signup will be posted 2/20, so not too far away to get in! The rounds always start on the first of the month.

This is the Application post.

Consider it. We definitely would like to have some more members! Variety is the spice of life.

Once again, we're median_art_swap!!!

Sensitive subject, I know. But I'd like to know what you guys think.

There seems to be this weird spectrum with trade communities.

skill not judged > skill judged for very good level > skill judged for OMFG HOLY SHIT level

There seems to be no middle ground between the "not judged" and the "very good requirement" level.

Now, the person who owns the community, of course, picks who gets let in and that meets their requirements or whatever, probably judging on their skill level and how close people are to it.

I can't get into places like anthrosketchxch or whatever it's called. I don't think I'm bad, but I'm not ZOMGPERFECT so I get rejected. Yah it was kind of a bummer to be rejected, but it happens. I mean, I'm not even material for topholess or those other places... and I guess so... but I shouldn't be stuck in the communities with people who suck, either.

This is why i don't participate in trade communities anymore. Either you're *omg good* or you're *omg shitty* and there is no middle ground for people who aren't as good as others yet, but who are not remedial artists, either. I know there's communities like mamasfridge and yes I joined reject_xchange or whatever- but still- unmonitored skill level communities are nice because everyone can participate, but you run the risk that the piece you spent five hours on is 'rewarded' with someone whose skill level is several notches below yours and your piece you receive hardly seems worth the effort. I may not be the greatest person to have assigned to you or whatever, and when you get my piece you might be like "ugh, god, this girl sucks"- but believe me- I've had people who I've gotten in trades and the piece isn't even worth right-clicking on to save. It's like, are you fucking kidding me? i wasted supplies on a traditional media piece for -this-?

And sure, I bet that sounds elitist.

Go ahead and think so.

I want to start a middle-range community, you know, somewhere inbetween 'unmonitored' and 'you have to be so good that I'd commission you'; something where yes, you have to apply to get in, but it's not super-strict requirements, either.

Problem is, who'd join? I'm not like, super-well-known-popular, and generally don't have a whole lot of artist friends who would want to participate. I mean shit, look at lulzexchange- lots of members, few participants. -_-;; We have a hard enough time getting new people to do THAT, and all that is, is funny shitty MSPaint art for the point of it.

Would any of you join if I made a community like that? something where yes, it's application only, but it's not super-strict (and no, i'm not going to tell everyone the canned 'you need to work on your anatomy' spiel)?

go ahead and think I'm elitist- but you can't tell me that you aren't a person or don't know a person who isn't BAD or UNSKILLED, but isn't ZOMGSOGREAT-THEYHAVEAWAITINGLIST-- and who might be a little irked at getting assigned people who can't color in the lines or who can't figure out where an eye goes on a face. I admire the effort, but sometimes it isn't worth wasting the supplies on something when all you're gonna get is glorified stick art in return. Haven't you ever wanted there to be a middle ground, instead of getting lumped in with the 'shitty' artists, even though you know damn well that you're not?
